Setting up SDL AI Studio

A quick overview of how it works

Download SDL AI Studio from the download page, run the installer for your platform, and follow the steps below.

SDL AI Studio installs on a computer you own and runs there. The installer does the heavy lifting: it sets up the local engine and downloads a starter model for you.

How setup works

InstallRun the installer for your operating system (Windows, Mac, or Linux). It sets up the local AI engine.
Get a modelThe installer downloads a local model to start with. You can add more later. Models are a few GB each.
Launch and startOpen SDL AI Studio, and start chatting, organizing projects, and researching, all on your machine.
Optional cloud and webIf you want more reach, enable optional cloud models or web search. These stay off until you turn them on.

What you need

A modern Windows, Mac, or Linux desktop
Disk space for the models you choose, a few GB each
A modern CPU works. More RAM helps larger models.
A GPU is optional, but it makes local chat and image generation much faster.

Your data

Your chats, projects, prompts, and knowledge stay on your machine. Nothing has to leave your device just to use the app. See our Privacy Policy for how the website handles data.
