We needed this ourselves first

Social Design Lab is a small studio, not a large company. Like a lot of small businesses, we started using AI tools to move faster, and quickly ran into the same two problems everyone runs into: the bill grows with every person who joins, and our work sits on someone else's servers by default.

Neither of those sat well with us. We did not want to keep paying more every time our business grew, and we did not want client work, prompts, and drafts leaving our machines just to use a chat tool. So we built SDL AI Studio to run locally first, with cloud features as an option you switch on, not a default you cannot see.

That first product grew into something bigger: SDL AI, a company built around one idea, that AI should be software you own, not software you rent. SDL AI Studio is our first product and the one that is live today. Hub, API, and Flow are on a public roadmap we build one at a time.

We are launching the same way we would want to buy it ourselves: a free tier that actually works, a fair one-time price for the full workspace, and no surprise renewal a year from now. We are still small, still building, and we would rather grow slowly and honestly than promise more than we can deliver.

• ◆Honest about the software. We describe what each product does and does not do, plainly, including while features are still early and while products are still coming soon.
